9 Fun and Alcohol-Free Activities to Enjoy in Galway
With the days still short and dark, it's important to get out of the house as much as possible.
However, much of Galway's social scene, especially in the evenings, often revolves around having a drink in hand. That's why we've come up with some great alternatives for spending an evening in Galway, whether you're on your own or with friends.
1. Plámás “Cóisir Thí”
Independent Westend coffee shop Plámás recently announced “Cóisir Thí,” a series of four intimate, alcohol-free live music events hosted in their very own shop. Supported by Galway City Council and The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, the idea behind the events is to foster a sense of community in Galway City that extends beyond 5pm, without the need for alcohol.
The first evening showcased the talented Rosie Connelly, accompanied by the outstanding traditional musician Seán Hehir, along with the popular local band The Bog Project, who performed an unplugged set. Make sure to follow Plámás on instagram to keep up with their late night activities.

2. Folklore and urban legends nights The Crane Bar
Celtic Tales storytelling, showcases a rich tapestry of myths, folklore, and urban legends from Ireland and Scotland. This event is an ideal way to get a dose of culture while enjoying a cup of tea or non alcoholic beverage in a relaxed pub. The sessions take place every Tuesday and Thursday at The Crane Bar, with doors opening at 7:30 PM.
Tickets are priced at €15, with a student discount available at €12.
3. Movement and fun with Galway Latin Dance
Located right beside the University of Galway, Latin dance classes offer the perfect opportunity to blow off some steam while learning a new skill. They have monthly parties and events so you can still have a night out on the dance floor without the nasty hangover the next morning.
These classes take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with both beginner and intermediate options available. The price for a single class is €14, and a four-week course is available for €45. You can book via their website, latindance.ie
4. Thrills and laughs with an escape room
Rather than opting for the usual pubs and clubs, escape rooms provide an opportunity to gather a group of friends, family, or colleagues to collaborate and create some memories in a distinctive setting.
Great Escape Rooms, conveniently located in close proximity to Eyre Square on Abbeygate Street Upper, features multiple rooms with varying difficulty levels, depending on how challenging you want your experience to be.
They are open until 10pm, seven days a week, with pricing ranging from €20 to €30 per person, depending on the number of players.
5. Make and do at a pottery class
Galway Pottery Classes have been teaching pottery from their location in the heart of Galway for over four decades. They offer classes for people of all abilities, providing evening courses from 7pm-9pm, making it the perfect late-night activity. You will be guided from the very beginning and learn all the necessary skills to create beautiful pieces. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with others, or try it solo.

6. Evening beach strolls at Salthill Promenade
It's easy to forget how beautiful Salthill is during the evening. During the day, it can be so busy that it's not easy to enjoy the peaceful waves and views. With the Creamery Café open until 8pm, you can sip something warm and tasty and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and stunning views of Galway Bay under the moonlight.
7. Take in a show at the Town Hall Theatre
Stay up to date with the latest performances at the Town Hall Theatre, where you'll find a diverse range of plays, poetry, music, workshops, and talks—there's something for everyone.
The venue is open 362 days a year, with an average of 15 hours of activity each day, so you're sure to find something you'll enjoy.

8. Improve your photography skills with a Galway photo walk
Bring any camera and walk about Galway with other photographers of all levels. Building on the success of previous years, Galway Photography Walks is stepping into 2025 with a fresh plan to bring people together through photography and connection. Galway photo walks is a social, community based activity led by Ciarán MacChoncarraige (@ciaranshoots on Instagram). The initiative now features a full schedule of monthly walks, all beginning at 12 pm from the iconic Eyre Square Fountain.
Beyond the regular walks, there are plans for workshops in the latter half of the year and the possibility of a publication showcasing the group's collective work. Galway Photography Walks remains a welcoming space where photographers of all levels can share, learn and explore. 9. Relax with a Movie & Meditation Session
Eye Cinema Galway is hosting unique and wholesome activity Movie & Meditation sessions in collaboration between Heartfulness Ireland. This innovative series features a selection of thought-provoking Irish films, followed by an optional guided meditation session.
