From catching each other’s eyes on the dance floor of Galway's iconic Electric nightclub to tying the knot in Barcelona, Róisín and Paul have shared a beautiful journey over the past nine years.

When they met, Róisín was studying Art and Design at NCAD, while Paul managed one of Galway's top restaurants, Dough Bros. “We had both known of each other for a while, as we both had distant mutual friends,” she recalls.

“Over the nine years we have been together, we were always building a relationship towards marriage, constantly growing closer and stronger as a couple as time passed.”

Róisín on designing her own wedding dress

As the owner of the luxury womenswear brand Róisín Dockry Design, Róisín seized the opportunity to create her own statement wedding dress. “I just had to jump at the chance and it is hands down my favourite dress I have ever made,” she enthuses. “It's 100 per cent silk, consisting of silk taffeta and silk mikado.”

Her experience inspired Róisín to launch a bridal collection, which includes a stylish edit of dresses for everything from the hen party to the ceremony and even the dancefloor.

When it comes to wedding dress shopping, Róisín advises future brides to take a breath and not stress too much about the process. “A lot of brides put a huge amount of pressure on how you should look in your dress,” she says. “Go for a dress that makes you feel most like yourself. You want to feel like you on your wedding day, so try not to overthink it.”

Dream Mediterranean wedding in the sun

Planning a wedding abroad in just nine months is no easy feat, but thanks to Valerie O'Donoghue, a wedding planner originally from Tramore, Róisín and Paul secured their dream venue, Xalet Del Nin in Barcelona, with stunning sea views.

They aimed to blend Irish wedding traditions with the vibrant Catalan spirit, ensuring their guests experienced the best of both cultures. “Touches of yellow and gold added to the Mediterranean holiday feel.”

Reflecting on the experience, Róisín wishes she could relive the planning process without getting bogged down by the little things. “Enjoy every minute of it and try not to let the little things stress you out,” she advises other couples. “If you feel overwhelmed, just remind yourself of what you are actually celebrating...because in the end, it’s your day, and it will be magical no matter what.”
